So, the author of the content you used without permission, would have a legal right to make you pay. However, if you did not have ads on your website, you might be forgiven, though it is a copyright infringement. I would recommend deleting all the people's comments that quote the originally posted work. That too can get you into trouble. It seems like an honest mistake. Just be cautious.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1165101100644345552006-12-02T18:11:00.000-05:002006-12-02T18:11:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1165001543219528102006-12-01T14:32:00.000-05:002006-12-01T14:32:00.000-05:00Thank you, Yatzi. LadyBronco...do we really know who you are? Just a fan of a team that got spanked on Thanksgiving--Go Chiefs! Sorry, had to rub it in :)

I don't have a blog either, but my name's Laura. Now do you really know who I am? It's rather silly to call people cowards just because they're anonymous. There are a lot of unsavory people trolling the web and I'm iffy about how all the internet stuff works so I post anonymously because I want to and I can. The Rejecter can disable that option if she prefers, no?

I believe the Rejecter has more of a responsibility to identify herself since she dispenses tidbits about publishing and her company that readers have a reasonable expectation of being representative of the industry. She's hit and miss with the accuracy of her info, as evidenced by the errors she posted regarding kid lit. If I didn't already have an agent, I'd want to avoid whomever employs her because she sees nothing wrong with publicly belittling other people's efforts. We all gotta start somewhere. Rejecter, would your classmate appreciate yours and posters' jabs, or do you not care? Like the bumper sticker says...Mean People Suck. Want to post your work so we can all take a crack at you?
If you did, I'd be honest, not mean. There is a difference. I suspect you'll learn that eventually. I know that sounds snotty, but I really mean it to be helpful.

That's my .02 cents. Thanks for reading! And thanks for the blog. I don't always agree with you, but I do enjoy it.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164945318989795952006-11-30T22:55:00.000-05:002006-11-30T22:55:00.000-05:00Generally I let people talk and raise arguments ag...Generally I let people talk and raise arguments against what I say, but since it's clearly been reduced to personal attacks and name-calling, I'm going to start deleting posts that do that. The Rejecterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09087643296072075641noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164945036227577532006-11-30T22:50:00.000-05:002006-11-30T22:50:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164944128050399252006-11-30T22:35:00.000-05:002006-11-30T22:35:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164943484962044312006-11-30T22:24:00.000-05:002006-11-30T22:24:00.000-05:00This comment has been removed by a blog administrator.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164942420818807942006-11-30T22:07:00.000-05:002006-11-30T22:07:00.000-05:00Fairness is the key question in this discussion.Co...Fairness is the key question in this discussion.

Copyright "fair use"? Yes, what Rejecter originally posted was clearly "fair use" (as I understand the law after 33 years in the news media).

Was it fair to post someone else's work on this blog without their permission? Probably not, but was it a despicable act deserving of the morally-superior attacks some have posted here? I don't think so.

Is it fair to keep a file of query letters? Depends on what you plan to do with them. When I was in management years ago, I kept a file of bad resumes - to use, with all identifying information redacted, as a teaching tool to neophytes hoping to learn from others' mistakes.

Fairness is in the beholder's eye.Bill Thompsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16528416535636932396noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35623128.post-1164941563657460572006-11-30T21:52:00.000-05:002006-11-30T21:52:00.000-05:00I post anonymously because I don't have a blog. I am merely stating, in a calm tone, that I still think what you did was not ethically sound, even if you "took down a post that was perfectly legal."

It's fine if you disagree.
